Geen aanhalingstekens, echt prinses. Geboren Joan Collins trouwde ze met Roy Bates, die in 1967 een kunstmatig eiland voor de kust van Suffolk uitriep tot de onafhankelijke natie Sealand en zichzelf Prince Roy en zijn vrouw Princess Joan noemde. Omdat Engeland Britse onderdanen niet toestond om voor piratenstations te werken. Engelse rechtbanken verklaarden hem twee maal souverein, althans niet vallend onder de Britse wet. Verhaal staat vol met ‘huh?!’ momenten. “While Sealand was said to have produced 300 “official” passports, it stopped issuing them in 1997 after a former business partner was found to be issuing forgeries, one of which was found on the body of the man who murdered the fashion designer Gianni Versace.”  En deze: “In 1987, under the terms of a new UN treaty, Britain extended its territorial waters from three to 12 nautical miles, swallowing up Bates and his principality in the process. Bates retaliated by extending Sealand’s own territorial waters by the same distance, taking in large swathes of coastal Essex and Suffolk.”
